Disinfection Services: Understanding Cleaning, Disinfecting & Sanitizing Surface Contaminants

Graphic of the coronavirus contamination

Contamination - The CDC states a  person may be able to get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.

Graphic representing cleansing to remove contaminants

Cleaning involves the use of soap and water to remove germs and other surface impurities. The risk of spreading infection is lowered by reducing the number of germs on the surface.

Graphic representing disinfection to kill contaminants

Disinfecting uses chemicals to kill germs. This disinfecting process does not necessarily remove germs, but killing germs on a surface after cleaning can lower the risk of spreading infection.

Sanitizing involves cleaning and disinfecting, done separately or in combination, to reduce the number of germs on the surface to a safe level as determined by safety standards.

  • Covid-19 Cleaning & Disinfecting Part 1 of 2

The Los Angeles Times recently reported that nearly half of U.S. small businesses may fail as a result of Covid-19. This alarming projection highlights the urgency behind opening your business and keeping it operating safely.

Fortunately, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control have provided guidance on steps we can all take when reopening public spaces, workspaces, businesses, and schools. The CDC's guidance includes a framework for cleaning and disinfecting practices that reduce the risk of exposure to Covid-19.

The first element of this framework is to routinely clean with soap and water to decrease how much of the virus exists on surfaces and objects. Second, disinfect to kill the virus. Surfaces and objects touched by multiple people should be disinfected more frequently. Third, only approved EPA disinfectants or approved bleach alternatives should be used. Careful adherence to the CDC's cleaning and disinfecting framework combined with recommended behavioral practices and changes will help your facility reopen and operate safely and responsibly.

  • Covid-19 Cleaning & Disinfecting Part 2 of 2

Hi, and welcome back.  In this video, we'll share with you how we can help you open and operate your facility safely by following the CDC guidelines and framework for cleaning and disinfecting.

First, we'll start with an evaluation of each space in your facility to determine what needs to be cleaned. Depending upon the location, how frequently each area is used, how frequently surfaces are touched, and the types of materials used on each surface, we develop a detailed plan that caters to your needs.

We then carefully implement the plan using EPA approved covid19 disinfectants selected specifically for the different types of surfaces in your facility. Finally, we'll periodically review and revise your cleaning and disinfection plan based upon updated guidance from the CDC and other trusted sources.

Plan, implement, and maintain. These are the three steps the CDC recommends everyone follow for reopening. And these are the three steps we implement for you to help you open your facility and operate safely.

If you need help protecting against the threat of covid-19, please call now. We're here to clean and disinfect your facilities and help you reopen and operate safely. And, please remember to follow all of CDC's guidance before reopening your facility.

1. Develop Your Cleaning Plan

We evaluate your facility to identify the areas requiring more frequent cleaning and disinfecting such as  public restrooms, exercise rooms, tables, buttons, handrails, tables, faucets, doorknobs, swinging doors, desks, chairs, shared/personal keyboards and printers.

According to the CDC's Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting, areas requiring more frequent cleaning and disinfecting include:

  • Indoor areas

  • Areas occupied within the last 7 days

  • Frequently touched surfaces or objects

  • Hard and non-porous materials like glass, metal or plastic

Based on an assessment of the type of surface and how frequently each area is touched, we'll determine how best to clean and disinfect the surface.

2. Implement Your Cleaning Plan

With the evaluation complete and cleaning plan in-place, fully-trained crews use appropriate cleaners and disinfectants to clean thoroughly and disinfect to your facility's specific requirements.  Suitably placed reminder tags indicate frequently touched areas.

3. Update Plan As Needs Change

We continuously monitor and revise your facility's cleaning plan as your needs change, and as CDC and EPA protocol and disinfectant guidelines evolve.

4. Take Precautions to Protect Everyone

  • Wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting.
  • Clean hands immediately after gloves are removed
  • Wear eye protection when there is potential for splash or splatter to the face
  • Store chemicals in closed containers and keep them away from children and food
  • Store chemicals in a manner that prevents them from tipping or spilling.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe and effective use of all cleaning and disinfection products (e.g dilution concentration, application method, required ventilation, and use of personal protective equipment).
  • Use reminder tags as needed for frequently touched areas
Approved cleaning and disinfecting products

We ask you to immediately notify us in the event of a positive case of COVID-19 at your facility. When you identify the high-risk or exposure area, we will implement the proper cleaning and disinfecting protocols to minimize the risk of infection spread.
